DAWLEY ROAD, BUS DEPOT, HAYES, MIDDLESEX

Construction of the new Bus Depot for Abellio at Dawley Road, Hayes, Middlesex, has been completed by Boshers Master Builders Ltd.

The development of a 230 m2 two storey office and welfare building with 3,500 m2 open service yard area, suitable for parking 53Nr buses, is now complete. The site also incorporates a bus wash, engine wash, and refueling facilities. The new depot has been designed as a dedicated operating centre, and has a living roof, nesting boxes alongside an energy rating of B.

The site had previously been filled and required a significant amount of remediation to achieve the necessary loading criteria for the service yard and welfare building. The works incorporate the necessary infrastructure for electric buses. A limited electrical bus service operates from the depot.

The front wall of the site is considered a heritage asset dating back to the Tudor period and required taking down and rebuilding using hand-made Tudor bricks and a unique brick bond. The foul drainage installation requires pumping over 100 m beyond the site boundary to connect to the nearest sewer.

MAW Consulting were Quantity Surveyors for the £3.60 million development.
